I am most pleased to attach for your perusal a brief article (9 pages of text, photos, and diagrams) by Drs. Adimula, I. A. and Oladipo O. A. of the Department of Physics at the University of Ilorin (Unilorn) in the African nation of Nigeria. The school website is http://www.unilorin.edu.ng.

Ilorin (8.5⁰N, 4.5⁰E, Dip, 1.7⁰, 375m amsl) is located inside the middle belt of Nigeria. Ilorin's location is scientifically significant because it lies on the Dip Equator in the heart of Africa.

The attached article briefly describes two recent installations at Unilorn: One by Japan (Prof. K. Yumoto, MAGDAS Project, SERC, Kyushu University) and one by the United States Air Force Academy. On long-term loan from SERC is a state-of-the-art, fluxgate, real-time magnetometer and on long-term loan from the Air Force Academy is an advanced digisonde unit.

I personally would like to thank Dr Adimula and his staff for their superlative hospitality and assistance during our short stay at Unilorn. I also want to thank his star pupil, Dr Rabiu, for "shining the light for us in Africa." Without his guidance, the "MAGDAS Project in Africa" would still be a proposition on paper.
