ISWI Newsletter - Vol.2 No.58 12 July 2010
Dear ISWI Participant:
I foward a message from Dr Hans Haubold of UNOOSA, (in blue).
Dear George,
The UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) is the Executive Secretariat of the International Committee on Global Navigation
Satellite Systems (ICG). For ICG, UNOOSA is implementing the UN Programme on GNSS Applications. This Programme is organizing annual workshops on global GNSS applications, also addressing ISWI.
In 2010 the workshop was hosted by Moldova, in 2009 the workshop was hosted by Azerbaijan. Additional to ISWI, the workshops are developing an Education Curriculum GNSS, similar to the four curricula available at (http://www.oosa.unvienna.org/oosa/en/SAP/centres/index.html) for the UN-affiliated Regional Centres for Space Science and Technology Education. In June 2010 for UNCOPUOS, a seminal UN document has been released as hard copy and as electronic file (http://www..icgsecretariat.org) titled "Current and Planned Global and Regional Navigation Satellite Systems and Satellite-based Augmentation Systems" (UN document ST/SPACE/50). This document is a basic input for developing the Education Curriculum on GNSS.
As known to ISWI participants, at least two ISWI instrument arrays are using the GPS signal for sounding the ionosphere: GPS-Africa and SCINDA. ICG is also a co-sponsor of the forthcoming UN/NASA/JAXA Workshop on ISWI in Egypt.
Readers of the ISWI Newsletter, who may wish to receive more information on ICG/GNSS/ISWI and may wish to request a hard copy of the above UN document, can contact directly Ms. Sharafat Gadimova at [email protected]. She is implementing the UN Programme on GNSS Applications.
Best regards, Hans
