Dear ISWI Participant:
Each year, in March, the space weather community of Japan gathers in Fukuoka for a kind of mini-workshop. Last year, it was blended into the big "UN/Japan Workshop on Space Weather" which many of you attended.
This year a special attribute of it was to honor Prof. K. Yumoto, who formally retires from Kyushu University this month. He is known to most of you -- as the former PI of MADGAS Project, co-founder of ULTIMA, and former Director of SERC/ICSWSE. He helped a lot of persons when they needed help; I was one of them.

COSPAR Capacity Building Workshop
“Impact of Space Weather on Earth”
will be held at the Institute of Cosmosphysical Research and Radio Wave
Propagation, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on
15-26 August 2016 in Kamchatka, Russia (http://cospar2016.ikir.ru/).
Experts from the institute along with distinguished invited lecturers from all over the world will give their lectures and seminars for students to introduce them to system-wide investigation of space weather phenomena, bringing together different ground based and space based observations for coordinated analysis. The lecture programme will be combined with project work studies of magnetic, ionospheric and radiation disturbances. The aims of the International Capacity Building Workshop (CBW) are to present data bases and to make them available for young specialists carrying out their studies, to teach them the methods of system analysis and to broadly acquaint them with the topical issue of Space Weather and associated scientific challenges.
We invite Post graduate, PhD students, junior researchers and staff members involved in the investigation of space weather to participate in the workshop. Please, see details on http://cospar2016.ikir.ru/.

TWO DAYS OF TRIBUTES TO PROF. YUMOTO, AS HE RETIRES FROM KYUSHU UNIVERSITY.
============================================================
On the evening of March 9, a banquet was held in honor of Prof. Yumoto. On the next day, there was a special "Yumoto Session" held as part of the mini-workshop at Nishijin Plaza, a conference facility of Kyushu University. The following pdf has photos of both events:

His 30-minute talk reviews the international contributions of Prof. Yumoto
-- from his years at Tohoku University, then at Nagoya University, and then
finally at Kyushu University.

This is a collage of 48 photos taken during the Farewell Banquet
held in honor of Prof Yumoto on March 9, 2016, at a shabu-shabu restaurant
not far from the venue of the mini-workshop. About 50 persons attended
this dinner -- a fitting tribute to the Kagoshima lad who gave every calorie
of his energy and all of his soul to the advancement of space weather
science and education. He had an impact on a great number of persons
all over the world.
