This newsletter is now published twice per month: on the 1st and 15th of each month. Normally, the next issue would be 01 July 2014. However, owing to some family affairs, I must be in the United States from 22 June to 13 July 2014, and therefore there will be no 01 July issue. The next issue will go out on 15 July 2014.

[1] ISEA-14: First Announcement - May 2014
The International Symposium on Equatorial Aeronomy (ISEA)
is organized approximately every three to four years and
is a major event in the field of Aeronomy. It serves as
a forum for scientists around the world to report and discuss
their recent research results and progress related
to the physics of the thermosphere and ionosphere at
equatorial, low- and mid-latitudes.
The 14th International Symposium on Equatorial Aeronomy will be held in Africa for the first time in more than four decades, from October 19-23, 2015 at Bahir Dar University, in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. Bahir Dar city, one of the tourist destinations in the country, is about 560 km from the capital, Addis Ababa. There are at least two flights per day to Bahir Dar from Addis Ababa. Addis Ababa, the capital of the African Union, is one of the most easily accessible African cities. There are many flights to Addis Ababa by major carriers, including direct flights from Washington DC and many European major cities.

[2] Dear colleagues,
I'd like to remind you to register for the "Geospace Revisited" meeting which will take place on the Greek island of Rhodes in September of this year (see second attached for more details), by June 15th, 2014 -- i.e.,this Sunday!
This meeting is not only directly relevant to the SPeCIMEN group but is designated as the "main meeting" of the SPeCIMEN group for 2014, so I would highly encourage all interested members to attend. We will discuss the plans and activities of the group over the next few years, and try to coordinate working groups around specific objectives.

[3] The attached document (the third attachment) is the status report for 2014 on the Basic Space Technology Initiative (BSTI) implemented by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs under the framework of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications.
The report has been distributed to the delegations of member States participating in the presently on-going 57th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
BSTI focuses on capacity building in space technology development, in particular on the development of small satellites, that are increasingly used in space science and applications missions.
Various on-going and planned small satellite missions are also contributing to space weather research activities.
In this context the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs is presently inviting applications for participation in the United Nations/Mexico Symposium on Basic Space Technology which will be held in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, from 20 to 23 October 2014, on the theme "Making Space Technology Accessible and Affordable".
