Two items for today:

Item 1 One product of the recent meeting of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of COPUOS is the attached press release (for information only -- not an official document).

Note that at the end of the press release there is a reference to the space agency of Indonesia. This agency is often referred to as "LAPAN", and it is active in space weather activities. Indonesia is larger than you realize: from west to east is the same distance as from California to Maryland, and the nation has well over 15,000 islands. With a population of 238 million, and growing, it will soon have twice the population of Japan. So in time, it will become the No. 1 economy in Asia (if China and India are left out).

Also attached is a NEO paper from 2001 and is relevant to the attached press release.


Item 2 The following text is from the organizers of UN/Ecuador Workshop on ISWI:

Dear Colleagues,

First, we would like to thank all who has already contributed to the planned Proceedings of the United Nations/Ecuador Workshop on the International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI).

We would like to inform you that due to the huge demand for an extension to the date for submission of papers for the Proceedings, the deadline date has been extended

FROM: Thursday 28th February, 2013 *TO: Friday 15th March, 2013.*

We would like to kindly remind you that manuscripts should be prepared based on the guidelines for authors of the international journal of research and applications Sun and Geosphere available at: http://www.sungeosphere.org/

We would appreciate your feedback if you have any comments and ideas about improvement to the proceedings content and structure, please let us know at your earliest opportunity.

We are looking forward to receiving your manuscripts to ensure that the proceedings are published as planned.
