ISWI Newsletter - Vol.5 No.70
13 June 2013

Dear ISWI Participant:

Please kindly note that this session has started in Vienna and will continue until June 21.

Among the topics that shall be covered is an overview of "Basic Space Science Initiative 1991-2012", and is the subject of the attached UN document (final version); I thank Dr Hans Haubold (UNOOSA) for sending it to me.

The opening paragraph of this document is as follows:

1. The present document contains an overview and summary on the achievements of the basic space science initiative in terms of donated and provided planetariums, astronomical instruments, and space weather instruments, particularly operating in developing nations. These instruments have been made available to respective host countries, particularly developing nations, through the series of twenty basic space science workshops, organized through the United Nations Programme on Space Applications since 1991.

If you contributed ground-based instruments to IHY/ISWI then your work is mentioned in this 48-page document. This document has an extensive publications list -- which is why the document is so long. But digitally it is compact: It is less than 800 KB in size.

Please note that the ISWI Newsletter office will be closed from June 18 to July 5 because the editor (G. Maeda) must travel to Australia for field work and for attending AOGS conference in Brisbane.
