NASA's Radiation Belt Storm Probes (RBSP) mission continues to make steady progress toward its scheduled launch date of Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012. For details, please go to: http://rbsp.jhuapl.edu/
For space weather enthusiasts throughout the world, this mission has an exciting aspect to it: A portion of its space weather data will be released in the form of real-time broadcasts directly from the two satellites to be launched. The broadcasts are intended to be received by ground stations supplied, operated, and funded by interested parties external to the RBSP Program and Project. In other words, anyone interested in this data can receive it ! ! !
Attached as pdf is the ICD (Interface Control Document) for this mission. It is hot off the press. The ICD presents a high-level strategy for the generation and broadcasting of real-time space weather data from the RBSP instruments. The space weather data to be broadcast from RBSP comprises a small fraction of the scientific data obtained by the instruments, but could still prove to be a wealth of data in the context of research and education in university settings, in both developed nations and developing nations. Applications are limited only by the Imagination.
