One major element of ISWI is explaining our work to the general public.

Here at SERC we do that periodically. We invite the local community to come to our humble research center and "touch our hardware". We set up special scopes so that they can view the surface of the sun. Kids can make special cut-out eyeglass for viewing the sun. We explain "space weather" to them, using very large computer displays. We try to make it as fun as possible --- to stimulate their interest in space weather. They pay taxes. We use their tax money. We need to explain to them why it is money well spent --- I think all of us have that obligation.

I attach photos of a recent "out reach to the public" (30 Jan. 2011). SERC staff and students managed this event. When you conduct similar events, please send to me the photos for newsletter circulation.
