Moldwin, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering University of Michigan, USA Abstract: We are developing and testing a COTS magneto-inductive magnetometer and noise cancellation algorithms for boom-less satellites as well as for ground-based networks, and backyard space weather citizen-science sensor suites. Our effort is focused on developing and testing a firmware modified PNI RM3100 magnetometer for space environment conditions for radiation and thermal environments from LEO to the surface of Europa. We are also combining the magnetometer with a COTS dual-frequency GPS receiver for research and citizen science space weather observations. Our goal is to have magnetometers everywhere to make high-quality geomagnetic and space weather measurements. This seminar describes the new technology and highlights the innovative hardware and software solution that enables global sensor nets and constellation missions. < end of abstract > [02]------------------------------------------------------------------------ Subject: International Space Weather Initiative Workshop, 31 October - 4 November 2022, Baku - - First Announcement From: Sharafat Gadimova Date: 2022/05/12 To: ISWI Newsletter editor Dear George, Please note below the first announcement to be included in the ISWI newsletter. Thank you and best regards, Shafa ---------------------------------------------------- Announcement: International Space Weather Initiative Workshop, 31 October – 4 November 2022, Baku, Azerbaijan An International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI) workshop will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 31 October through 4 November 2022. The workshop is being organized by the Office for Outer Space Affairs in cooperation with the Baku State University of Azerbaijan. The main objective of the workshop is to focus on new research results and findings and at the same time aim at strengthening international coordination and cooperation on space weather products and services. The workshop will consist of a series of technical sessions, panel discussions and working group sessions. As a preliminary suggestion the following are the topics of the workshop: Solar Physics Solar Activity and Climate Change Sun-Earth Connection Space Weather Instrumentation and Data Geosphere Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere Coupling Space Weather Modeling GNSS and Space Weather National space weather programmes and studies Capacity-Building, Education and Outreach Make sure to check our website for the latest information: www.unoosa.org _____________________________________________ Sharafat Gadimova, (Ms.) United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Vienna, Austria sharafat.gadimova@un.org | www.unoosa.org   [03]------------------------------------------------------------------------ On 2022/05/05 22:31, Jean Lilensten wrote: Dear George, Would you be so kind to post this announcement in the next ISWI publication ? Best regards Jean ---------------------------- Dear colleagues, The international space weather and space climate medals have been created in 2013 to honour major contributions in the field. There are three medals: [1] The Kristian Birkeland Medal honours basic and applied research ; [2] the Baron Marcel Nicolet Medal awards the ability to bind the space weather community in a spirit of peace and friendship ; and [3] the Alexander Chizhevsky Medal, which awards an early career scientist. The medal committee is formed of the /scientific medal committee,/ which proposes the winners to three academies of science, that of Norway, Belgium and Russia. The final decision is made jointly by these 3 academies. When the medal committee started to prepare the medal competition for this year, the work was interrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which started a war that we condemn and regret. The scientific medal committee finds it impossible to work serenely in the context of this war, all the more so because the medals were set up in a spirit of peace, friendship and international collaboration. The committee therefore decided to skip the 2022 contest. 5 May 5th 2022 Jean Lilensten, chair of the scientific medal committee. -- Jean Lilensten Editor in Chief of the Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate (JSWSC) Institut de Planétologie et d'Astrophysique de Grenoble (IPAG) UMR 5274 CNRS / UGA Office: 124 rue de la piscine, Bâtiment D de physique, 38400 Saint Martin d'Hères Postal: 414 rue de la piscine, BP 53, 38041 Grenoble cedex 9, France Tel : +33 (0)4 76 51 41 49 Fax: +33 (0)4 76 51 41 46 jean.lilensten@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr IPAG : http://ipag.osug.fr/ SWSC : http://www.swsc-journal.org/ Planeterrella : http://planeterrella.osug.fr/ -- *****************[ End of this issue of the ISWI Newsletter ]***************
