Dear Colleagues

We are pleased to invite you to the conference 'African Geophysical Society (AGS) Conference on Space Weather 2019', to be held in Cairo, EGYPT, from 25-28 March 2019.

Description:
Space weather is a global challenge that requires improved and sustained international coordination to respond to severe space weather events. There is a need for advanced space weather models, forecast tools and data-sharing, which is the main concern of AGS2019 sessions. AGS2019 sessions will discuss the global forecast, nowcast and space weather warning capabilities needed to improve predictions and preparedness for space weather events. In the context of that topic, AGS2019 will height the need of more international cooperation and effort toward establishing a global space weather warning network. In addition to the enrichment of scientific knowledge and research capability committed to the young African researchers , ASG2019 would be an effective tool to raise the awareness on impacts of space weather phenomenon among African policymakers, designers and engineers.

[3] Father Dan's Geospace Engineering Program News from Philippines

The Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) in Davao City is introducing a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, ahead of Philippine government plans to develop a space industry and attract space-related investments to Mindanao. The degree program, the first ever in the country, is starting this semester, according to Fr, Daniel J, McNamara, Ph.D., AdDU’s physics coordinator. He explained the idea arose from the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) proposal to set up a space facility in Mindanao in the next two years as part of the National Space Promotion, Awareness, and Capabilities Enhancement (SPACE) Development Program.

[6] 3rd ANNOUNCEMENT, FReSWeD 2019, Towards Future Research on Space Weather Drivers July 2÷7, 2019; San Juan, Argentina

This meeting will promote the exchange of information in the area of space weather, from the point of view of the phenomena that drive it from its origin in the solar atmosphere, through its evolution in the interplanetary medium, to its arrival in geospace. The event will be accompanied by a school with a mix of introductory tutorials, demos and hands-on labs.

This meeting and associated school are being organized on the occasion of the total solar eclipse of 2019, whose totality path will cross five provinces of Argentina extending for more than 1200 km.

Super low solar radio activity in 2018

The Sun was not very active in 2018, there were hardly any bursts observed with all the instruments in the e-Callisto network. Currently, we have more than 150 instruments delivered to several places worldwide. Unfortunately, only about 50 instrument-hosts provide data to archive on a regular basis. My wish for 2019 is to get more of existing instruments operational. There is only very low manpower required to keep an instrument operational. We think a 1% FTE is sufficient to take care of an instrument.

If you need support, just let me know. I’m retired now and have plenty of time left to support you. Ideally, you install TeamViewer on your PC and provide login data such that I can help remotely.
